Three Stars, One Chembur Story
Long before the red carpets, Chembur had its own star line-up. In a Curly Tales interview, Vidya Balan, who spent 31 years in the suburb, recalled her days at St Anthony’s Girls’ High School, where Shilpa Shetty was her senior. Shilpa was a basketball player, and when Vidya’s mother packed her off to 6 am practice, it was Shilpa who taught her to dribble. “She was so sweet, I will never forget,” Vidya said, adding that there were “already murmurs that Shilpa might be joining the movies.”
Malaika Arora, she noted, was from another school but walked down Vidya’s lane for French tuition, with all the boys sitting out waiting for her to pass. Vidya’s verdict on her old suburb? Chembur has produced “too many hotties, what to do!”
